“Some men see things that are and say why?
I see things that are not and say why? - RFK
If we see a person who is visually challenged, we immediately stop to guide them safely on their way.
If we see a person challenged with a health emergency such as choking or a seizure, we jump into action without hesitation.
I could name other similar challenges people face where none of us would not hesitate to jump up to help.
Unfortunately, there are challenges that are not as obvious. We constantly hear of the homeless problem, and we think immediately of tents on the sidewalks, or people with mental or drug issues. We feel compassion then quickly move on.
What about the families, veterans and seniors who are Home Challenged? Think about it. we have lumped together people with all kinds of challenges, physical, mental and societal. The first two groups challenges are evident. The last group are trapped by issues associated with finances, education or health matters: often at through no fault of their own. Worse yet they are not visible.
We interface with people everyday who have inadequate or subpar housing simply because there is “No Room at the Inn” so to speak. Look around at all the new housing in Sussex and Kent County, which sell for $400,000 - $1,000,000+. How can Mary or Tom that waits on you at the diner or Carol at the checkout counter who has a husband and 2 - 3 children afford one of these. The same holds true in the rental market; where a small two-bedroom apartment rent for $1800 - $3000 per month plus utilities. Now considering the cost of electricity, food, gas and a family with a gross income of $4,000 to $5,000 per month is just as challenged even when there are no health issues and they own an automobile.
Little Living presents a unique solution to municipalities to resolve the affordable housing crisis. Little Living can rapidly and efficiently create our “Little Villages.” The Little Living. Org’s board members bring their wide range of talents, Management, Finance, Legal, Government Regulations, Construction and Medical to attack the housing shortage in a focused fashion.
Bringing young families, seniors and veterans together creates a “Village!” The bright, well maintained village will quickly change hopeless and helpless feelings to one of hope for a better tomorrow and a bright future.
As a non- profit we will build our one or two-bedroom homes for between $85,000 and $100,000 and will market & sell for the same price -no mark-up! The rent on these same homes, for those who are not able to buy one, will be between $900 and $1100 including utilities.
We are 501(c )(3). We need your help. We face challenges, the soft costs, legal, engineering, site work, sewer, water can reach millions of dollars. Our goal is to reduce the effects of these items with the private tax deductible donations. With your help we can provide a brighter future for people struggling to live in a safe, clean and beautiful village.
We plan to build over 250 homes in the next four years. The first Village will begin in Georgetown in early 2025..
Will you help? You can make a difference!
